About me
I’m Dahlia, and I am what I eat.
Welcome to my kitchen and blog, where I’m recreating the foods of my childhood in the Egyptian diaspora.
Growing up in Canada, my mama and teta raised me on the rich cultural traditions of the Egyptian kitchen, linking us to the homeland they left but never forgot. And while navigating identity in diaspora can be disorienting, there was one place where I always felt firmly rooted in my Egyptian cultural heritage- the kitchen.
Now, I cook these same dishes for my own children, along with some Puerto Rican foods from their father’s tradition to root my own kids in their heritage. Join me in cooking these foods, along with some other favorites I’ve picked up along the way during a life spent in Toronto and New York City.
